Bagel for my Valentine
I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s (or gal-entines, or pal-entines, or to-hell-with-love-entines) Day! Nathan and I went on our very first road trip to view some new houses not far from where we used to live, and whilst we were there we stopped at The Steamhouse.
It was so worth the forty-five minute detour. I knew that I missed it, but had no idea how much until I was back there. It’s not just the bagels that make The Steamhouse incredible (although they are ah-mazing, and all hand baked!), it’s everything. The people, the vibe, the music, the friendly chatter and laughter.
I remember first going there, probably almost a year to this day. I immediately felt comfortable, which is something I’ve never experienced with a cafe or restaurant. I remember they were playing John Mayer, and I thought to myself, I could definitely live here. Odd, I know, but hey, that’s what I thought! The strangest part? I felt like I’d been there before. That’s how instantaneously comfortable and at-home I felt.
Unsurprisingly, I became quite a regular customer and quickly developed a regular order: The Modest (with no cheese) and a San Pellegrino Limonata. The Modest is, in my opinion, their best bagel. I’ve tried many of them, but I always come back to The Modest – grilled chicken, mozzarella for the dairy tolerant, tomato, rocket leaves, and a pesto mayo that is nothing short of heavenly. Delicious.
I know what you’re probably thinking: how weird is it to be this obsessed with a bagel shop? and I know! I just simply can’t help it. I’ve tried and tried to find that same vibe and ease somewhere else, but nothing can beat The Steamhouse.
Anyway, I’ll stop rambling on, but if you live near Leamington Spa, go visit! And whilst you’re there, tell them Emily misses them.
